Breathtaking, exhilarating and huge are just a few ways to describe the crown jewel of Colorado—Snowmass. Already famous for endless terrain (over 3,000 acres) and tons of snow (300 inches), Snowmass is now undergoing a renaissance like no other with two new gondolas, a new high-speed six pack and numerous on-mountain improvements. Snowmass also plays host to an expert terrain park super pipe and the heart pumping steeps in KT Gully, Hanging Valley and the Cirque. This is a huge mountain, we know it well so stop by the ski shop and say hi and we can may some secrets too!
How to Ski Snowmass Mountain;
- Terrain for everyone. A true family mountain where everyone can ski the runs that suit their ability and meet up at lunch or in many cases at the bottom of a chair.
- Longshot is the run for those intermediates that are looking for that little extra something. After a 10 minute hike up Burnt Mountain from the top of Elk Camp you arrive at Longshot. At Over 4 miles long this blue run starts cruisey, adds in a few glades then a number of easy mogul fields.
- Powder skiing at Snowmass , early birds should start off on Sams Knob for some high speed bombers, then move east over to the Big Burn (opens 30 minutes later), after a couple of unreal glade runs on Powerline , move further east to the Cirque Headwall and pick your poison; Cliffs, chutes, and wide open fields await (watch out for rocks).
- Hanging Valley Wall, this is the favorite of most locals, so much double black terrain for only a very short hike. Home to extreme skiing competitions so be smart about where you go and don’t duck the ropes! there are too many cliffs around for that kind of behavior.
